Lemmon School District has two educational centers (a K-6 center and a 7-12 center) and operates on a four-day school week—While there is no school on Friday, it allows students to come in for extra help, computer use for their special projects, and make-up work. It is also a time for extra-curricular activities.

The 2006-2007 enrollment for K-12 is 295. There are currently 155 students  in grades 7-12, and 140 in K-6. There are currently 28 teachers, plus support staff.


The school operates an Extended School Time Program which is free for students in grades K-6. The program operates from 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

Lemmon Public School has an excellent extracurricular sports, academics, and fine arts program. Students in grades 7-12 may participate in a variety of sports from basketball, volleyball, football, track and field, cross country, golf, wrestling to cheerleading. Other opportunities include chorus, drumline, concert band, pep band, art, oral interpretation, one-act plays, student council, FFA, National Honor Society, Destination Imagination, newspaper, and yearbook.

Lemmon Public School also takes full advantage of the Digital Dakota Network (DDN). The DNN system allows school districts to send classes to another school or receive classes that are not offered within the district. Lemmon currently receives Spanish I and II classes over the DDN.  

Adult Education and Family Literacy Program
GED Program

The Northwest Area Schools Cooperative operates the Adult Education and Family Literacy Program in Lemmon. This free nontraditional education program assists individuals earn their GED Certificate (equivalent to a high school diploma). To be eligible an individual cannot be currently enrolled in school nor have received a high school diploma. HEADSTART

The Badlands Head Start Center provides pre-school based educational opportunities in a classroom type setting for ages 3-5 at the Lemmon Headstart Center located at 901 ½ W 5th Ave. For more information phone: 605-374-3134.

Badlands Early Head Start home based services covers families in Perkins County. The program provides comprehensive family services involving early childhood education, family partnership training, health and nutrition for pregnant families/individuals and for children through age two.
